I met a man today wearing a striking vest and jacket combination. He looked quite dapper. I commented on his look and he told me that this outfit had a great story: He had first bought the vest at a time when he couldn’t afford to buy both, as the store sold them separately. He vowed to return for the jacket, but time went by and his time and money were allocated elsewhere. Until, one day he passed by a second hand store and saw the jacket! And it was the same jacket he had vowed to return for, in a different store and significantly marked down! Of course he purchased it and now wears both. Now, this means that the jacket was purchased by someone else, from the original store, only to be given away, and somehow making it’s way to the exact store he would pass by that one fateful day. I said to him oh my! How romantic! The jacket was meant for you! It could not be parted from it’s vest! …You are wearing a Love Story on your body!

He didn’t quite want to agree with me on that, seeing it more that he is wearing unwanted clothing. I told him perhaps the jacket would lead him to find his true love one day. He told me that that sounded like a horror story about a haunted jacket.

Sigh. We see what we want to see. But in the end, there is a poignant tale to be told from this experience: The haunted, unwanted man meets the woman who sees a love story radiating out of him. Perhaps she is haunted in some way herself or she would not have been drawn to a coat and jacket combination worn by a man who sees them as haunted and unwanted. And so, Haunting Unwantedness meets Radiant Love and together they skip off together. Radiant Love lighting up Haunting Unwantedness in a bath of her warmth while Haunting Unwantedness leads Radiant Love through all the darkness, so that she may shine her light even brighter. They balance each other and make each other stronger…like the look of a vest and jacket together. One on it’s own is fine and nice; but together there is distinction and elevation so that even the wearer must walk taller.

How do we walk down the street everyday combining our shadows with our light in ways we can’t even see? Pay attention to the next compliments you receive.
